Hibernate.

It's a week of deep grey here, rain washing sideways. Wind creeps in through cracks in the walls, and everything, as far as I can see, is drenched.

It makes me want to curl up under a blanket with a few books, a cup of cocoa, and some warm socks as stowaways. To hunker down, sleep, wait half-awake until this is all over.

But this is the modern world.

Modern times. We have space heaters and lights and the ability to transform our built environments into any season, at any time.

I'm running a small business, and there's a long, long list of things that need done. So I turn on all the lights and play some music and tell my body, "No no, we don't need to hibernate. See? It's bright! Summer! Time to get things done!"

Grudgingly, it goes. Tricked for a moment into believing.

But further down, in my bones, nucleoli, DNA, there's no deception. They feel the cold, the damp. Hear the wind and rain. Know winter, cave, hibernate, better than I ever have.

They eye the blanket, the couch, waiting for me to let down my guard. And every day, they eventually win. :)

I know that for most everyone reading this it's far from winter, but I wonder - do you have moments like these, in the depths of those long, cold days? What's your favorite way to hibernate?

p.s. The best thing I saw this week is this Veritasium video, ostensibly about dust and skin cells. Except that it's really the best summation of the danger, potential, and ways we have to fight misinformation on the internet I've seen in a while. This stuff's been on my mind a lot of late - and I hope you enjoy this take as much as I do.
