About me
Hi, I'm Steven.
I've been a writer for twenty years and a full-time traveler for over a decade, living and writing from more than two dozen countries across six continents.
Ink & Feet is where I put the work that matters to me.
The work
Writing is what I'm most known for. Most Sundays, I send out a letter - a dispatch from wherever I happen to be. People from all around the world read it each week, and some of them have been reading for ten years now. Year by year, it's built into one of the things I'm most proud of.
I'll also occasionally try to compress down what I've learned (often by failing) into a compact list of insights or write a longer essay about life, place, and what it means to be a person navigating this strange and beautiful world. My hope is that it's all the kind of stuff that reads the way a good conversation feels - honest, wandering, and human.
And perhaps most importantly, I wrote a book about depression and a couple heart-felt articles about depression that unexpectedly went viral - read by millions, globally. Folks have emailed me to tell me they've saved some lives and helped a whole bunch more. Being able to actually give back after dealing with depression still means more to me than I know how to say. (If you deal with or know someone who deals with depression, there's a whole section of the site dedicated to it.)
Over the years, as I've circled around what living an authentic life means, and how we can find our ways to it, I've made some courses and tools that help people do just that, including a life-planning masterclass.
In less written forms, I also take photos, experiment with video, and have made a few pieces of interactive art on the internet over the years. Some of them have even aged well.
The rest
I actually used to have a lot more about me and my personal story up on this site, but as my audience grew and, well, as I grew, I realized that I much preferred to keep my personal life private, and just let the work speak for itself.
I know parasocial influencer relationships are all the rage, but they're just not for me. Thanks for your understanding.
But if something here strikes you, and you'd like to let me know, feel free. It's my first name at this very website. I do read every email.
Be well, be kind to yourself, and I'll see you around. Thanks for stopping by.
-Steven
